ONCOLOGICAL INTERVENTIONISM
Oncological intervention is contemplated through close collaboration and coordination with the oncologist, establishing an individualized plan to address each tumor or complication associated with the tumor, always prioritizing comfort, improving quality of life and making a personalized risk/benefit balance. and shared with the person.
Dr. Alguersuari Cabiscol has focused her activity on the following oncological treatments:
-
Percutaneous biopsies of potentially malignant lesions.
-
Percutaneous ablations of kidney, liver, lung and bone tumors.
-
Tumor embolization.
-
Arterial chemoembolization of tumors.
-
Derivative treatments in case of obstruction of the urinary, biliary or digestive tract.
-
Pre-surgical portal embolization.
PERCUTANEOUS ABLATION OF TUMORS
What is it?
Percutaneous tumor ablation is a minimally invasive interventional radiological procedure, without surgery, that uses different energy sources, such as radiofrequency or microwaves, to destroy tumor cells, with results as effective as the surgical alternative, when it exists.
Procedure
Ablation of a tumor consists of destroying it by placing one or more needles into the tumor through the skin, guiding the procedure using different imaging techniques (CT and/or ultrasound).
Tumors in the liver, kidney, lung, thyroid and bone can be treated, with results as effective as surgery, preserving the adjacent healthy organ as much as possible.
Tumor ablation requires sedation or anesthesia and a minimum hospital stay (24-48 hours). Recovery is much faster and the risks much lower for the patient compared to surgery. In fact, they are especially indicated in patients with high surgical risk.
